Emplacement

Commune du Grand-Est, Gérardmer takes place in the department of Vosges, in Lorraine. Nicknamed the Pearl of the Vosges by Victor Hugo’s brother, Abel, it is located not far from Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, in the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges. Also a winter sports resort, the town is known for its landscapes and cultural activity.

Gérardmer, according to historians, would have been created in 1285, and knew a long common history with the duchy of Lorraine and the abbey of the canonesses of Remiremont. Erected as a parish in the middle of the 16th century, the commune developed strongly in the 18th century with the arrival of the railway, then with the arrival of Alsatian textile manufacturers, following the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine by Germany.

Although the city suffered a lot from the destructions of the Second World War, it continues to be appreciated by tourists for its charm and sports facilities. One can still admire an interesting architectural heritage, as well as exceptional landscapes.
