Emplacement

Located at 1326 meters above sea level, at the confluence of five valleys, Briançon is the highest city in France. This city of art and history, fortified by Vauban in the 18th century, is today listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Briançon has a remarkable set of military works, built between the 18th and 20th centuries to improve the defense system of the city. The visit includes the upper town, or citadel Vauban, the very heart of Briançon, dominated by the Château Fort, and the surrounding fortifications of the Fort des Salettes, the Fort des Trois Têtes and the Fort du Randouillet. In winter, Briançon becomes a popular destination for ski enthusiasts, its ski area being part of the famous resort of Serre Chevalier.
